Dear Hubbard Brook colleagues:

I am passing along a note (below) from Jane Sokolow, and longtime Hubbard
Brook supporter and colleague, about a FAO survey on forestry education.
  She notes that:

“ If you are a forest or natural resource educator (many of us are), if you
work with or employ recent forest or environment graduates (many others of
us do), or if you have views on the knowledge and skills needed in the
workplace now and in the future (probably all of us do), your views are
valuable.”

Here's an opportunity to have your voice heard on forestry and
environmental education. The survey is open until the end of October.

Gary

I am writing to invite (OK, appeal to) all of you to participate in a
global survey on forest education. I know, I know, surveys are tedious, but
this is important. It is the most comprehensive global survey on forest
education of its kind ever done. My Forestry School classmate and friend,
Susan Braatz came out of contented retirement to do a consultancy for her
previous employer, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,
to work on this effort. The findings of the survey will form the basis of
a long-term, multi-partner effort to strengthen forest-related education
worldwide so that graduates are better prepared to meet present and
evolving needs in the workplace.

If you are a forest or natural resource educator (many of us are), if you
work with or employ recent forest or environment graduates (many others of
us do), or if you have views on the knowledge and skills needed in the
workplace now and in the future (probably all of us do), your views are
valuable. Bob and Charlie expressed some of their views on
forest/environmental education in the call on Saturday. I am sure all
members of the class will have something to contribute to the survey. It
will take only half an hour of your time. The survey will be open until the
end of October. COVID has been harder on survey responses in the North
American region than in other regions, so your participation in the survey
and help in disseminating it to forestry educators, students and employers
in North America as well as in other regions will be a huge help.
Information on the project can be found at:
https://www.fao.org/forestry/forest-education/en/

The link to the survey is Global Forest Education Survey

Please pass this along to others. Can this be sent out to the HBES
ListServ? Everyone can participate. There are options to fill it out as
an individual or as an organization.

Many thanks.
