*Hubbard Brook in the News *

   - SUNY-ESF: Dr. Myron Mitchell Appointed to EPA Advisory Committee
   <http://www.esf.edu/communications/view.asp?newsID=7165>

*Outreach and Education Update *(*Including recent and planned speaking
engagements for public audiences, community outreach events, and K–12
education involvement*)

   - Lindsey Rustad and Anthea Lavallee met the Assistant Director, the
Operations Section Chief, and the Assistant Chief of Field Services at NH
Homeland Security and Emergency Management on February 2 to discuss the Ice
Storm Experiment and opportunities to collaborate and to share information
related to these extreme weather events.
   - Charley Driscoll traveled to Washington, D.C. along with Kathy Fallon
Lambert from Harvard Forest, Jonathan Buonocore from Harvard University,
and Dallas Burtraw from Resources for the Future to give two briefings on
February 6. The first session was organized by the American Lung
Association and was open to House staff, the press, and the public. The
second was closed and was for minority members of the Senate Environment
and Public Works committee staff. The group explained differences in carbon
dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen emissions; air quality impacts; and
health and ecosystem benefits between the current standard to control
carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and a replacement proposed by
the Trump administration that would improve the heat rate efficiency of
   individual facilities.
   - Hubbard Brook Research Foundation Trustee Anant Sundaram, Anthea
Lavallee, and Mark Green met with Cabot Creamery Cooperative’s Director of
Sustainability and Environmental Consultant on February 23 to discuss
   respective approaches to environmental monitoring.
   - Nat Cleavitt continued doing educational outreach for the Hubbard
Brook Research Foundation with a February 20 visit with the first graders
at Holderness Central School. She has two school trips planned in March.
   - Photographer Joe Klementovich visited Hubbard Brook to take pictures
for his “Portraits of Science” series. Check out the images (featuring
Tammy Wooster and Amey Bailey) here
