Hi Everyone -

We will be bringing Premise back online this evening. As mentioned in Rob's previous communication, a portion of the data storage (Lustre) is currently experiencing issues and may be at greater risk for data loss. We have ordered replacement parts to remedy this situation, but receiving and installing these parts is a number of days out. However, we understand that Premise is absolutely critical to your research, so we have taken steps to bring it back online in the meantime.

Since there is potential for the Lustre storage to experience additional issues before the parts are installed, we encourage the groups on Lustre to make backups of their critical files. This includes the following groups:

HCGS, MacManes, Kovach, Plachetzki, Whistler, Jeffers, Mouser, Cheng, Bigornia

If you belong to one of these groups and do not have a backup of your files already, we will be making another non-Lustre storage area available to backup your critical data to. We will be posting instructions on how to do this to the COLSA Slack channel. Groups not listed above are unaffected by the current issue but should continue to follow recommended, best practice backup strategies.

In addition to the repair work above, the current Lustre will be completely replaced with a new Lustre soon. We are planning on performing the first portion of this work during the week of June 13th. Premise will be offline during a part of that week. Please let us know if any specific days conflict with upcoming projects and we will do our best to accommodate everyone's schedules.

Thanks, please feel to respond directly or via the COLSA Slack if you have any questions regarding this work. Thanks,

Toni Westbrook
