Chelle,
This contact was scheduled for 2k and from the ATS we were configured
for 2k. We tried for 5 minutes to get the signal to lock up. USN kept on
seeing negative numbers for EB/NO readings. We tried to re-sweep a couple
of times with no success. We took down the command uplink to see if we
could lock up on a non-coho signal and no success. I finally tried to
resend the command for a 2k downlink and all of a sudden we locked up on
data EB/NO was from 24 to 32 DB. I have seen on previous spacecraft where
you will get just a straight carrier wave with no modulation on it. Why it
happened I don't know. Resending the transmitter commands would normally
correct the problem. I suspect resending the 2k tlm command cleared the
problem. So, that's why I suspected it was a spacecraft problem.

Hi Tim,

Can you explain why this was a S/C issue? Were we on the edge of the null?

All,
The Hawaii support started off a bit rocky, but improved with time. We
lost the first 5 minutes of data due to reasons unknown. USN was seeing a
very weak signal with high fluctuations in the EB/NO power. Commanded the
down link to 2k and we locked up with a stable signal. EB/NO ranged from
24.5 to 32.4, Spacecraft was then commanded up to 40k and saw an EB/NO of
12 to 16. CAR 418 was executed with no problems. Post Star tracker image
dump, I tried to dump the FCBO data but was not able to complete the dump
prior to the end of the support. I did not dump any of the SSR due to lack
of time post Startracker dump. Since the problem seemed to be with the
spacecraft and not the ground station I did not fail the support.
