Dear Hubbard Brook Committee of Scientists,

The National Science Foundation LTER program is considering supplements to
catalyze expansion of DEIA efforts at LTER sites. If you have some ideas
that might be suitable, please send them to us, even preliminary ideas, as
soon as you can, but at least by Friday, April 5.

Their goal is to support innovative activities that help to build and
sustain a more diverse, accessible, and inclusive LTER community.
Supplement requests
to develop novel and innovative approaches to enhance DEIA at LTER sites
are strongly encouraged.

Requests that support individuals from underrepresented groups in the
biological and environmental sciences will be considered. Requests may
include funding for graduate students, postdocs, and early-career faculty.
Such requests should include specific plans for research, mentoring (for
graduate students and postdocs), and potential opportunities for
advancement in leadership at the site. As in prior years, supplement requests
to support Research Opportunity Awards (ROA) and Research Experiences for
Teachers (RET) will also be considered.

Activities with plans or opportunities to sustain efforts beyond the 6
months of NSF-funded supplemental support will be prioritized. Please
describe any plans to sustain funding in your supplement inquiry. NSF does
not anticipate sustaining broadening participation efforts through repeated
supplements.

Due to limited funds and high budgetary uncertainty, NSF anticipates
supporting a maximum of one supplement request per LTER site, per fiscal
year. In prior years, LTER supplement award amounts have ranged from a few
thousand dollars to $150,000. Please coordinate among site participants to
put forward the most compelling idea for your site.

The overall goal of this year’s supplement opportunity is to broaden
participation across LTER research and education activities, while
providing a supportive environment. To request support for this type of
activity, the lead investigator for the site should contact their managing
program officer by email with a written description of activities and
budget estimate. Requests that do not include the lead investigator(s) in
the correspondence will not be considered. Requests should be no more than
4 pages in length. Please contact your managing program officer(s) with any
questions. Requests must be submitted by May 1.

Thanks!

Peter and Pam
