Greetings Hubbard Brook community,

*Thank you to those who have already applied! We are still looking to fill
a few more spaces in this program! This program is geared towards PI's,
researchers, collaborators and students who want to learn and practice
op-ed writing to better communicate science.*

In collaboration with Harvard Forest and inspired by HBRF’s Young Voices of
Science <https://youngvoicesofscience.org/> (YVoS) program, our two LTER
communications teams have organized a series of 2 winter workshops aimed at
helping researchers of all ages write successful op-ed pieces and
communicate the amazing science we do in unique and engaging ways.

The two workshops will be held on the evenings of February 8 (6-8pm EST, on
Zoom) and March 1 (6-7pm EST, on Zoom). Following the same format of the
YVoS program, this workshop series will be limited to 20 total
participants (combined
HB & HF, 10 participants from each forest community). In lieu of a fee,
participants are asked to prepare and submit one op-ed piece for
publication at the end of the workshop series. The February 8 workshop will
be led by award-winning author David George Haskell <https://dghaskell.com/>
and focus on how to write an op-ed, with a step by step recipe for success.
The March 1 workshop will focus on discussion and breakout groups to refine
writing ideas and discuss pitching for publication.

If you would like to participate in these free workshops, staff,
researchers, and collaborators must request a spot
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmZkEsqluOyKz8zoQXHIfUfaQTSYwb0Xc1CrD9DwxR2467LQ/viewform?usp=sf_link>
by January 27th. The application form only takes a minute to complete.
Applications will be reviewed by the HBRF team. If we are oversubscribed,
HBRF staff will make an effort to balance participation across
institutions, disciplines, and walks of life.

We are still looking to fill spots, so if you are interested, please do not
hesitate to sign up, or reach out to bleonardi at hubbardbrookfoundation.org with
any questions.

Thanks!

Brendan
