Hello everyone,
I wanted to let folks know that you may notice some strange things in the forest.
On Norris Brook near the headquarters building there is a set of drums, cymbal, and a set of microphones recording the stream sounds as well as precip hitting the instruments. This will potentially work with WaterVis.
Also Xavier Cortada, with Mark Greens help, has installed 'water paintings' downstream of each weir. The idea was to immerse a drawing of a weir (on water color paper) in streams for a period of time (TBD), and see what interesting things happen to the drawings. There are two pieces of paper in plastic mesh, attached to a piece of rebar (via rope) driven into the streambed downstream of each weir. The paper will be monitored and removed within weeks or months - once the stream has imparted enough impact on the paper.
It is always interesting to see how different minds work to interpret the forest. Ian
