[Crater-team] 6-month update to D5/D6 LET spectra and dose rate

Hello—

Yes, GCR intensity was about 6% higher in the 2020 solar-minimum peak compared with the one a decade earlier (which was already historically deep, per Mewaldt et al.). The present fall to solar-maximum intensities looks steeper than last time too, so it may go lower before it turns around. We should see in six months to a year.

Hi Mark

That is fascinating. It looks like this last cycle has been deeper than the one prior. Is that the case?

Cheers

Nathan

Hello—

I attach the usual trio of figures, adding another six months of data to the CRaTER LET spectrum and the dose rate calculated from it, per our 2020 paper. The most recent intensities (black curves in the two spectrum plots) are almost back down to the level of the 2014 solar maximum (green curves). I’m thinking of submitting this, along with the data files that go into the plots, to the Zenodo repository so they will be available for others to use.

Happy new &%*#@! fiscal year…
