Hello—

I tried sending this yesterday, but the list server appears to have rejected it because of the spammy “To:” list. The Geant4 Space Users Workshop is back!

Thanks—

Hello—

I just received this long-awaited “save the date” note about the next Geant4 Space Users Workshop, which has been on hiatus since before the pandemic; the last one was held in Greece in October 2019. This is one of only two meetings (the other being the Fall AGU meeting) that I attend every time it comes around; it is an excellent opportunity to discuss your applications with other users, and to learn about new and upcoming features of the code from the developers. They have a particular focus on making Geant4 more useful to the large and growing space science and engineering user community, and this meeting is one of the main communication mechanisms by which they decide how to accomplish that. When I started using Geant4 a couple of decades ago, you could tell that it was really meant for elementary-particle physicists, by and for whom it was originally developed, but it has become much more user-friendly since then and has picked up features specifically of benefit to our community. So this is a worthwhile meeting to attend, for two-way (or rather, multi-way) exchanges of information.

I’m forwarding this email to all the people with whom I’ve corresponded recently about Geant4, MCNP, or other energetic-particle radiation-transport codes, in case it would be valuable for any of you to attend (and easier to get to for most of us, in Pasadena rather than Greece). Typically there would be a $300-$400-ish registration fee to pay for the venue; if it’s held at a JPL building, I don’t know if that will be the case this time. The brief attendance survey in the email below is anonymized, so if you want to get on the mailing list for announcements then please contact Makoto Asai or Insoo Jun directly at their addresses in that email.

Back in the saddle again!

Dear colleagues,

After the 3 years of suspension due to the Covid pandemic, we would like to resume our regular Geant4 Space Users Workshop series. We plan to organize the 15th Geant4 Space Users Workshop on December 5th-7th, 2023 at Pasadena, California, U.S.A.

For the planning purposes, we'd like to estimate how many participants we can expect. We would appreciate it very much if you could fill the following short questionnaire by June 23rd. Your response will be treated anonymously for planning purpose only. Once the meeting venue is confirmed, we will separately send out the meeting announcement.

Please feel free to forward this email to the people who may have interest.

Kind regards,
Makoto Asai for the local organizers
