Dear Hubbard Brook COS,

Below is a job posting for a second Summer Field Technician to work on the Ice Storm Experiment.  Please circulate to interested students.  I have attached files for the two positions we are advertising for.

Thank you!

Lindsey Rustad and John Campbell

Position: Summer Field Technician

Location: Hubbard Brook, New Hampshire

Duration: Approximately late May through August 2015

A summer field technician position is available at the USDA Forest Service office in Durham, New Hampshire. The successful candidate will work on a collaborative ice storm research project funded by the National Science Foundation. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a better understanding of the long-term impacts of ice storms on northern forest ecosystems. The employee will work closely with US Forest Service scientists and will be paired with another field technician. The work will entail resampling forest plots that were established in New Hampshire and Vermont after the Ice Storm of 1998. A full forest inventory will be conducted at each plot including herbaceous vegetation, seedlings, shrubs, saplings and trees. An ability to correctly identify regional tree and herbaceous species is essential. Experience or coursework in forest mensuration is also desired. In addition to field work, other major duties will entail: 1) preparation of tree cores for measurement; 2) data management and analysis; and 3) assistance preparing reports and journal articles. The field work will be physically demanding and involves hiking off trail, carrying equipment and supplies, spending long hours in the field, and working in inclement weather. Since the field sites are distributed throughout New Hampshire and Vermont, multiday travel will be required for many weeknights. Use of a personal vehicle is desired and compensation for mileage will be provided.

Qualification: Minimum of enrollment in undergraduate institution

Application: Please email resume and cover letter to Lindsey Rustad (lrustad@fs.fed.us) and John Campbell (jlcampbell@fs.fed.us).
